Patient 8A -1st PET scan (slide 1 of 2)

History: 61 year old male with newly diagnosed esophageal carcinoma. PET study performed to rule out metastases.

Impression: Several hypermetabolic foci involving the mid-esophageal region (primary lesion), as well as para-aortic lymph node metastases. PET 18-FDG upgraded this patient from localized, resectable to non-resectable disease.

Normal cardiac uptake of FDG.
