Residency Nuclear Medicine

The Department of Nuclear Medicine offers a two year approved residency. The program is designed to train qualified individuals acceptable for careers in the field with emphasis on both clinical and research aspects of Nuclear Medicine. The residency program covers the diagnostic, therapeutic, and investigational uses of radionuclides, and includes training in important aspects of radiochemistry, computer science, and modeling. Trainees will be acquainted with the techniques and methodology of the major nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic applications and will be encouraged to participate in research, particularly as it relates to developing or evaluation instrumentation and radiopharmaceuticals, radiobioassay, or radioimmunoassay advances, and the utility of new radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals. The training includes an active clinical and research experience in positron emission tomography (PET).

The first year of the Nuclear Medicine residency is at the PGY-2 level. Preparation in intern Preparation in internal medicine, pathology, radiology, or another acceptable area of study is required. A strong background in mathematics and physics is helpful.

Trainees will, upon completion of the program, be eligible for examination by The American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
